Plagiarism is the act of using material which is not your own, without making clear reference to the original author/producer.
In academic writing, we are told to reference all of our external material, so that we know where the original piece of information came from.
This means that what we obtain from books, journals, articles, poems, videos, the internet, or even television shows, all needs to adhere to the University referencing protocols (there are several different referencing systems for each department here at the University. For a full list, please go to the Library website). Failure to do this can have severe repercussions.
