How the Residence Life Team can help

The Residence Life Team hours are 11.30am-8pm (Mon-Thurs) and 12noon-8pm (Fri) and are based in Bateson Hall. They also provide an out of hour’s pastoral care provision seven days a week every week which is accessible by phoning security on +44(0)23 9284 3418.

The team are responsible for the day-to-day management of welfare and pastoral concerns of residents within all our halls of residence. First years that are living in private sector accommodation, students living in Unite Halls or Catherine House can also get support from the Residence Life Team at Guildhall Halls.The Residence Life Team provide welfare cover 24 hours a day, seven days a week for every week of your stay. Students living in halls of residence can talk to the Residence Life Team about any matter that is causing them concern; whether it is difficulties with their flatmates or concerns about whether or not they are studying the right course. All discussions are kept confidential and issues will not be shared with any third parties, unless written consent is given by the student for a third party to become involved. All conversations are completely confidential. The Residence Life Team will not act upon a matter unless you want them to. The Residence Life Team can also offer a mediation service between flatmates, for example helping to resolve a shared cleaning dispute and so on. If the Residence Life Team cannot help you with a specific issue, they will know someone within the University who will be able to help and can direct you to the appropriate support service.Daily appointments:

Programme of Events:

The Residence Life Team also deliver a programme of events throughout the year, around four core principles: Community Building, Social, Wellbeing and Skills, to enhance the student experience andmake sure that every student living in our accommodation feels welcome, comfortable and safe; yet most importantly, has fun whilst living in their home away from home.

Community Building provides a range of information on your responsibility regarding communal living via awareness campaigns, events and activities to ensure all residents enjoy a safe study environment.

Social provides a wide range of inclusive activities and events run by students (Residence Life Assistants) for students.

Wellbeing comprises everything that involves your welfare, health, safety and overall comfort and security when living within our accommodation.

Skills relate to everything and anything a student may need to set them up for success during their first year and beyond.

Examples of Res Life Team Events: Speed Friending, Film Nights, History of Portsmouth Night,

Yoga, Weekly Quiz nights, Jenga and Pizza night, CV Workshop, Games Nights, Live Band Concert, Karaoke Nights, Talent Nights, Art Nights, Cake Decorating, Christmas Decorating and gift wrapping.

Residence Life Assistants You can also speak to a Residence Life Assistant (RLA). Residence Life Assistants are students who have experienced their first-year in halls so they have the knowledge and experience to help. Residence Life Assistants have been trained to assist with all types of issues and they will be happy to help you. You will find the Res Life Assistants in halls every evening Mon-Fri 6pm-10pm. RLAs are fellow students who can always be relied upon to be a friendly port of call.
